Unix Tip #4106- May 9, 2012
PROTECT THE ROOT DIRECTORY AT ALL COST
Here is a little extra guard that can be taken if
anyone attempts, or accidentally recursively removes
files inside a directory. If and when it occurs,
the person will constantly be prompted with the
question"are you sure?"
Here is how it works in a safe area:
% cd /usr/tmp
% mkdir foo
% touch /usr/tmp/foo/\-i
% chmod 000 /usr/tmp/foo/\-i
NOTE: Use the fully qualified path to create the
file when creating.
% cd foo
% touch fee fii foo fum
% rm -rf *
Every little bit helps!
NOTE: All tips provided are USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Tips are submitted
by various unix admins around the globe. UGU suggest you read and
test each tip in a non-volitile environment before placing into
production.
